Some say that a scriptwriter is "a person who writes scripts for movies, plays, television, comedy shows, political speeches and other presentations." This list leaves out LSL scripts...no suprise. We are scriptwriters too, not much in the limelight, even though many things depend on good programmers. Hackers are the builders of Second Life. As we mentioned before, everything here starts with a cube, in the imagination of a hacker.
In SL we can make movies -- the animation comes for free thanks to Linden Labs -- and then we can use our LSL scripts for special effects. There is a short worksheet (#13) about this here, and some examples below.
We can use our physics scripts (the ones we built from the worksheets #11 on the link page) to make the "sets" for cool videos. In these examples, Hector just watches our scripts perform while recording the audio and video. Yes, these videos are short, but you can make them loop. Make sure you can hear the nd effects! turn them up!
- An unfortunate accident (avi) (mp4) 1:22 mins (this was not planned! Hector apologizes!)
- Planet-pair orbits (avi) (mp4) 48 secs (science fiction example)
- Pushing spheres (avi) (mp4) 36 secs (existential example)
The avi formats are compressed with an XviD codec... if your video player cannot play these, try getting the codec here -- just grab and run the right installer for your computer and then try the video again.
These first videos linked below look like they were quite easy to produce. But when you try to make one yourself, you'll see they are not so easy! These links are interesting mainly because of the background scenery and music. With these videos, like ours above, make sure you are hearing the sound! (You'll see that in these, the scripts are not doing so much of the work as in our videos -- no surprise)
- Virtual starry night 1:58 mins (HVX Silverstar)
